Why You Should Start A Creative Hobby

Do you have a creative hobby?

Usually when I ask, I often receive a reply such as:

– I’m not creative enough
– I don’t have time
– I want to be more creative but I don’t make it a priority
– Or, I have too many ideas and don’t know where to start
 😜

Often, before we even begin to try a new hobby, we expect to be really good at it from the beginning and then find ourselves feeling disappointed when the result we’d hope for, didn’t turn out…

We forget to embrace the wonky stages of being a beginner.

To be creative doesn’t mean you have to be perfect at something.

I bought some painting pens recently, having never used them before, and started drawing on paper even though I’d never considered myself to be a drawer.

But I tried it anyway and surprised myself after some practise.

For me, creativity is like meditation and it’s a huge part of self-care.

If I’ve gone days without being creative in some way, that’s normally when I start to feel a bit wobbly.

Creativity invites balance and calm, and enhances creative practises.

I find that it’s an easier choice, rather than forcing yourself to sit still in a meditation.

It brings you to the present moment AND it’s fun! 😄

Recently, I’ve been engaged in a variety of creative projects such as:

– Sewing clothes
– Embroidering flowers
– Drawing floral patterns
– Writing
– Photography
– Creating videos
– Starting a new season of The Smiling Soul Podcast

I’ve been in a state of creative flow and as a result I’m:

– Less anxious
– Less agitated
– Detaching myself from outcomes
– Releasing perfectionism
– Surprising myself
– Trying new things
– Getting to know myself on a deeper level
– Receiving more ideas
– Trusting my intuition more
– Connecting with and understanding my true purpose

If creativity is a topic that interests you, please let me know. I’d like to offer you some workshops online in the near future, relating to creativity and mindfulness.

In the meantime, I encourage you to try something new and engage in a creative hobby that you’ve always wanted to try. You never know where it could lead you.

Take care,

Lauren
