Ways to declutter the mind…

Do you ever think about the space in your mind?

What occupies that space the most?

– Worries about all the ‘what ifs’?
– Your to-do lists?
– Memories and events?
– The noise you receive daily on that little device that’s stuck to your hand?
– Repetitive thoughts and conversations that you have about yourself or others?

We have a lot going on in there, that’s for sure.

Our thoughts can have a powerful hold on us. They impact and dictate our lives in countless ways – in fact, all of the ways
😅

That’s why it’s important to become aware of the thoughts that take up space in your mind.

Do you feel like the majority of the space is positive, tidy, imaginative, creative, and calm?

Is your mind a place that you can retreat to and reconnect with yourself?

Or do you avoid it like the junk drawer in your kitchen or desk – adding clutter and unnecessary items to it, daily?

If it’s messy and weighing you down, maybe it’s time to consider decluttering and cleansing your mind.

Release the things that no longer serve you, so that you can focus on journeying through life with more ease and flow.

When our mind is tidy, our surroundings become tidy too.

We can…

– Find clarity
– Handle challenges that come our way more effectively
– Make the progress we desire
– Become sure of our path and direction in life
– Feel more focused and energised

As your mindfulness and creativity mentor, it’s my role to practise mindfulness and self-awareness regularly, so that I can support and encourage you when it comes to living a life that feels aligned and balanced.

– I’ve read countless books on the topic of mindfulness and wellbeing
– Attended courses (I’m I lifelong student of self-development)
– Practised meditation
– Completed Yoga Teacher Training
– I’ve even spent ten days in pure silence (no phone, computer, books, talking, writing – only stillness and meditation for 10 hours each day) in the middle of nowhere in Sri Lanka – just to understand my mind that little bit more 🤪

What I’ve found to be profoundly helpful as I navigate my internal world, includes the following practises:

– Dedicated time for silence and stillness – whether it be a walk, yoga, meditation, or simply staring into space or out the window.

– Nurturing my creative hobbies and making them a non-negotiable part of my week (at least) – encourages me to be focused, still, aware of my senses, connected with my intuition

– Self-awareness and reflection – writing in a journal / creating a video journal to release my thoughts, focusing on what I’m doing right, celebrating my wins, learning lessons from my struggles

– Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping) to rewire my subconscious and invite new and empowering self-talk into my mind

These are my go-to practices that help to clear out the mental clutter.

And they do help!

I don’t pressure myself to practise all of these things every day, because I’m human and I’m experiencing a wide range of emotions and feelings, daily – just like you. I like to take one day at a time (when I’m being mindful of course)…

Instead of pressuring myself or being hard on myself, I feel into what my body needs in the moment and pick one thing.

But the end goal of practising mindfulness, is always to relax my mind and body, say goodbye to the scattered and often overwhelming thoughts that take unwanted residence in my mind, and feel at peace
 🙏
